Women in Philanthropy – Ghana celebrates International Day of the Girl Child

Women in Philanthropy-Ghana (WiP-Ghana), a leading organization dedicated to creating a world where women and girls can thrive and reach their full potential, is excited to add its voice in creating awareness on the movement to invest in girls in Ghana.

Under the theme “Building a strong movement in Ghana to support Investment in Girls’ Rights, Leadership, and Well-Being,” this release aims to catalyze positive change in the lives of girls across the country. Investing in girls is a multifaceted and crucial endeavour for the empowerment and development of individuals, communities and societies and therefore needs a holistic approach.

From education to healthcare to protection from discrimination and violence as well as mentorship and training, policy and legal reforms and awareness are all pragmatic measures Women in Philanthropy as a movement is supporting women and girls in.

Girls’ rights, leadership, and overall well-being are elementary pillars of sustainable development. Women in Philanthropy recognizes that empowering girls is not only a matter of human rights but also a pathway to stronger communities, economies, and societies.

Philanthropy investment offers a vast opportunity for girls to reach their full potential through education and leadership development.

As a popular quote by Kwegyir Aggrey says, “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family (nation).”

Ensuring girls have access to quality education is an overarching principle. Even though there have been some giant steps over the past few years towards this justifiable course,  there are still many communities in Ghana under-reached.

Women and girls are taking community action at all levels, but their voice, agency, and participation are under-supported, under-resourced, under-valued and under-recognized.

“Women and girls can lead us to a fairer future…let us amplify girls’ voices, and recommit to working together to build a world where every girl can lead and thrive,” United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement.

There is therefore a need for a women’s movement in Ghana that can be committed to amplifying the voices of women and girls and mobilising resources for investment in empowering women and girls.

Our vision is to create a world where women and girls can thrive, reach their full potential, and positively impact their families and communities.

By investing in girls’ rights, leadership, and well-being, we are investing in a brighter future for all. That is  what Women in Philanthropy-Ghana stands for.

This year’s celebration is geared toward mobilising partners and allies for the building of a strong women philanthropy ecosystem in Ghana.
